Helen Cavill, a process improvement manager at M&H Plastics, has reached the final stage of the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards 2015.
Cavill, whose specialism is manufacturing engineering, is the only packaging/plastics entrant in the final.
She recently achieved chartered status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers following her Master of Engineering degree at the University of Cambridge and six years with M&H Plastics.
Cavill will compete against four other engineers for the prize.
M&H Plastics is a manufacturer of plastic bottles and caps, primarily for the personal care market and Cavill’s role at the Suffolk-based firm involves investigating and resolving complex technical issues, often spanning across several production departments, a job she describes as being an “engineering detective”.
She is currently working on automating dimensional measurement of plastic components.
The IET awards will take place in London on 3 December.
